Antique Art Nouveau Ceramic Table or Mantel Clock with Bronze Flower Sculptures

About the Item

Rare and stunning majolica glazed antique clock from the European Art Nouveau era. If you like rare Arts & Crafts antiques in general and marvelous clocks in particular then this handcrafted table clock from circa 1900-1910 could be the perfect addition to your collection / interior. When you understand how many difficult and time consuming techniques it took to create this antique work of time telling art, will you really be able to appreciate its beauty, rarity and quality. First of all, it would have taken a designer several days, if not weeks, to hand draw this design and this would take multiple sketches. Secondly, a ceramics specialist created the perfectly shaped and glazed majolica 'clock house'. This requires glazing and heating/'baking' in the keln and there too many things can go wrong. Thirdly, the aesthetically beautiful flower sculptures that you now see in gilt bronze, would first have to be sculpted out of clay or another material. From that initial sculpture a mold would have to be made and that mold would then be filled with extremely hot liquid bronze. The bronze sculpture would then have to be sanded, polished and gilt. Fourthly, in both the glazed ceramic clock house and the bronze flowers sculpture holes would have to be drilled so that the two could be attached with small nuts and bolts. Fifthly, the perfectly enameled and hand painted dial face is another specialism that would require yet another artisan. It does not stop there, because inside of this masterpiece is a perfect working, brass, eight day clock mechanism that could only be ordered with a specialist clock maker. The clock maker may also have created the patinated brass door in front of the dial face, but the beveled glass window inside would again have been made elsewhere. All those specialists in the early 1900s together have created this incredibly stylish mantel clock. And for it to be in this amazing condition and still running perfectly after more than a hundred years is like an ode to the dedication and skills of all the artisans working in that era. From the one hole in the dial face (where you wind the clock mechanism using its original key) one can see that this clock has no striking mechanism and it also has a nice and calm tick tock pendulum sound. Mind you, our price for this rare and excellent condition table clock includes perfect packing (in a custom made box) and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days. Maximum height x width x depth: 14.75 x 7 x 5 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again).
