18th Century Dutch 'Utrecht' Longcase or Grandfather Clock by W.V. Dadelbeek

About the Item

A walnut, burr-walnut and inlaid Dutch longcase clock by W.V Dadelbeek, Utrecht. The case of typical form, trunk door with feather banding, bombe base, original carved painted and parcel gilt wood figural finials of Atlas, Father Time and Mercury. The silvered brass dial with engraved silvered arch depicting the moon phase. Silvered seasonal spandrels to the silvered chapter ring, subsidiary sweep second hand dial, aperture showing days of the month; and a further subsidiary dial for the alarm mechanism. The movement with anchor escapement and Dutch strike on two bells, two brass weights, pendulum, two smaller weights for the alarm. The case has well carved elements, inlaid box wood flower and bird decorations, a gilded brass lower mount showing Europa on a bull. Altogether a magnificent example of 18th century furniture and clock making.
