50s Huge Mid Century Modern Setsoto Design Hand Woven African Royal Family Cubist Wool Wall Hanging Textile Art from South Africa. Enormous 3.5 Ft x 5 Feet Rare, highly collectible Setsoto hand woven Wool Cubist Wall Hanging with finished hanging tabs. This one of a kind, dazzling modernist work, depicts a gathering of people. The tapestry incorporates extraordinary bold hues of orange red and gold which are dramatically blended with greens, shades of blue, gray and lavender The Setsoto tapestry is a handwoven textile art originating from the Setsoto municipality in the Free State province of South Africa, and also from Lesotho. These tapestries are known for their vibrant colors and depictions of village life and traditions. The end result is a central masterpiece of brilliant exhilarating colors coupled with warm inviting muted undertones. The staggering size brings together the other elements in the room for a stunning yet calming aura This piece depicts a market place gathering of tribal members. The piece is was also created by this tribal community. The design clearly has design elements found in the works of Picasso and Klee. Thanks There are woven tabs along the top for a hanging bar It’s over 70 years old yet still retains its bold coloration. There are no rips or issues or smells.
