Lemerle-Charpentier & Cie Marble, Gilt and Patinated Bronze Clock Set
About the Item
This fine clock set is crafted in patinated bronze, red marble and ornamented throughout with exquisite ormolu. It is the work of Lemerle-Charpentier & Cie, a French company highly celebrated for their superlative clock sets and garnitures.
The set comprises a central clock and a pair of flanking candelabra. The clock is set on an oval plinth of red marble with ormolu feet. To the front of the plinth is set a relief panel in patinated bronze. Upon the plinth is set a fluted column of patinated bronze with ormolu flowers and banding, surmounted by an ormolu urn. The circular clock dial is set to the front of the column, with a face of red marble and Roman numerals in ormolu. Next to the clock face column stands the full length figure of the Greek goddess of hunting, Diana, holding a torch cast in patinated bronze. The pair of flanking candelabra are set on square plinths of red marble with canted angles and ormolu feet. Atop this are set fluted columns of patinated bronze, and an ovoid urn with relief panels with reliefs of classical figures on the main body and twin ormolu handles. Atop the urns are set candelabra, each with seven lights and ormolu drip pans set onto scrolling branches of patinated bronze. The candelabra are each surmounted by a removable patinated bronze finial in the form of a bird.
The clock dial bears the signature of Lemerle Charpentier & Compagnie.

Antique Marble, Patinated and Gilt Bronze Clock Set by Gervais
By Ferdinand Gervais
Located in London, GB
This three-piece set—composed of a clock and a pair of flanking candelabra—is a truly unique and delightful piece of decorative art.
The clock is modelled in the image of an 18th century sedan chair – that is, a covered chair sat in by a member of the social elite, which was carried on poles by two people. This chair-shaped clock case is crafted from gilt bronze (ormolu) and decorated with festoons and a flower finial. At its centre, there is a circular white enamel dial, which features Arabic Numbers, colorful swag paintings, and the manufacturer’s name, 'Fd Gervais / Ft du Bronzes / A Paris'. The lower part of the case is glazed, allowing one to see the clock’s sun-burst pendulum. Like a sedan chair, the clock case is carried by two patinated bronze putti...

French, c. 1870
Clock: Height 80cm, width 40cm, depth 33cm
Candelabra: Height 82cm, width 40cm, depth 40cmvarious
This fine three-piece set includes a mantel clock and a pair of candelabra. The pieces are crafted from bronze—both gilt and patinated—and rich griotte marble. The clock features a griotte marble truncated column shaped base, which is adorned with gilt bronze mounts, such as a low relief plaque and beading. The front of the case is inset with a dial within a gilt bronze bezel and beneath glass. Strikingly, the clock case is surmounted by a large and impressive patinated bronze sculptural group after an original by Clodion, which depicts two nymphs carousing with musical instruments and bunches of grapes.
The candelabra are similarly decorated, each with a conforming marble base. The stem of each candelabrum is modelled as two patinated bronze figures holding aloft the candelabrum head, which issues seven gilt bronze branches: six scrolling branches and one central one.
The clock dial is signed 'Jules Graux...
