Japanese Contemporary Red Yellow Blue Porcelain Box by Master Artist

About the Item

Mesmerizing Japanese contemporary decorative signed porcelain box, extremely intricately hand-painted in vivid red, blue and yellow with generous gold details, on a stunningly shaped porcelain body. Kinrande style hand-painting represents Arita porcelain, which appeared in the Edo period (1688-1704) and has been handed down to the present day. The colors are deep, and red and gold are used luxuriously, and flower patterns are drawn on the surface of the vessel. This style is thought to reflect the spirit of the Genroku era, which was economically abundant. It is highly decorative and many kinrande works, such as large lidded vases, still decorate museums and castles around the world. Extremely intricate plum blossoms in yellow decorate the entire surface of the body and lid of this decorative box, set against a deep blue background. Plum blossoms endure the harsh winter and bloom before other plants, are considered to be a symbol of vitality. It is also said that it is revered as an auspicious flower that bestows prosperity of descendants and longevity, and brings good fortune. Graceful herons are flying over this stunning scene. Since herons fly to the waterside near private houses, they are very popular in Japan and have been worshiped as sacred birds since ancient times. The quietly standing heron with its elegant presence is a popular auspicious pattern that has been used in a variety of Japanese art forms including lacquer work and ceramics. This outstanding porcelain box comes in a custom-made wooden box signed by the artist. Dimensions: H 13.5 in D 14.5 in.
