Vetro Soffiato Centerpiece by Guido Balsamo Stella attr. for C.V.M. Pauli & Cia. Murano
A large “Vetro Soffiato” art glass bowl attributed to Guido Balsamo Stella. Distributed and most likely made by C.V.M. Pauli & Cia. Murano Venice ca. 1920s. Made of thin, smoke-colored glass with a conical bowl, four compressed discs below the bowl and a bell-shaped stem. Signed with a paper label from the Pauli & Cia. company. A great example of the outstanding art glass production of Murano. Good condition, some producton related scratches on the foot.

Pauli & Cia. C.V.M. is founded by Dr. Salviati Antonio as 'The Venice and Murano Glass and Mosaic Company'. Salviati leaves the company in 1877 and the company is renamed 'Compagnia di Venezia e Murano' (C.V.M.). The company is mainly involved in the production and sale of Venetian glassware. However, imported glassware from Loets, Tiffany, Daum and Gallè is also sold. In 1910, the company ceases its own production. In 1920, it is sold together with Pauly & Cia. to a Milanese company and a year later to Gaetano Ceschina. The companies traded together under the name 'Compagnia di Venezia e Murano Pauli & Cia'. In addition to lighting fixtures, the company also produced high-quality glasses based on designs by Guido Balsamo Stella, Napoleone Martinuzzi, Umberto Belotto, Flavio Poli and Vittorio Zecchin. After the Second World War, the company's own production was discontinued and glasses from Alfredo Barbini, Livio Seguso and foreign glass manufacturers such as Moser and Libenski were distributed.

Very large Vetro Soffiato glass dish by Vittorio Zecchin for Venini Murano ca. 1925
A very large 'vetro soffiato' glass dish in amethyst transparent glass, designed by Vittorio Zecchin in 1925 and manufactured by Venini, Murano Venice. Acid stamped signature 'venini murano' on the base. Venini model number 1306. The dish has been manufactured in different sizes, this is the larges version which is very rare. One of the early 20th century designs of Zecchin for Cappellin and Venini which motivated the muranese glass companies to set out for new shores. Good condition with some surface scratches. The last picture shows it together with a mid size version with 14.29" inches as comparison of the sizes.
