George IV Table Bowl Made in Edinburgh by Leonard Urquhart, 1829
About the Item
An Extremely Fine George IV Table Bowl, Most Probably for Fruit, Made in Edinburgh in 1829 by Leonard Urquhart.
The Bowl stands on a flared circular ring foot. The slightly baluster main body rises to a triple reeded rim above various wriggle work and prick dot bands and engraved foliate sprigs. Both the front and reverse is engraved with a square cartouche, flanked by crossed branches. The front contains a contemporary Crest, with crown and the Motto "Crux Salutem Confert - The Cross brings Salvation." This is all engraved in the Scottish manner. The Crest and Motto are those of the Barclay family of Scotland.
The bowl is in quite exceptional condition and is of a very good gauge of silver. Silver by Leonard Urquhart is scarce, this being only the second item we have offered.
