Antique French Carved Pierre de Préty Stone Sink, Burgundy, Circa 1810

About the Item

Hand-carved in Préty, France, circa 1810, this beautiful stone sink has a curvaceous front edge above a deep cavetto undercut. Préty is a commune located in the Saône-et-Loire department of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (Burgundy), in eastern France. The stone, known as pierre de Préty, has a light pink hue with light gray inclusions and hints of gold veining. Rounded corners enhance the arbalete shape of the sink, as do the canted back corners of the basin interior (the canted corners have been carved with slight indentations, making excellent soap “dishes” or a place to store a small drinking cup). The interior has also been carved with an arbalete form, although it is less pronounced than the exterior curve. A metal drain with an outlet in the back fills the drainage hole of the 27 x 16 5/8 (3 ¾ H) interior. Our pierre de Préty sink would make a wonderful addition to any bathroom. It could also be used as an exterior wall-mounted sink.
