French Japonisme Style Gilt Bronze and Faience Standing Jardinière

About the Item

French Japonisme style gilt bronze and faience standing jardinière French, late 19th century Measures: Height 84cm, width 69cm, depth 48cm This fine jardinière is in the manner of Gabriel Viardot, one of the leading producers of Japonisme style furniture in France during the late 19th Century. The jardinière is raised by four scrolled wooden legs, each mounted at the shoulder with a gilt bronze lizard and joined by twin shelves—the lower shelf featuring a pierced wooden gallery and both shelves inset with a faience plaque painted in imitation of cloisonné enamel. The four legs, joined at the top by a pierced apron, support the body of the jardinière, which is ornately pierced and mounted with Japonisme style gilt bronze elements.
