Antique 18th Century Pair Of Columns Hand Carved Wood Painted Flowers

About the Item

These columns were hand carved out of wood in the the middle of the 18th century either in the South of France or in Spain. Garlands of roses and leaves wind them selves around the wood. The columns have preserved their original painting and traces of the original gilding. Some of the paint has come off to reveal the plaster undercoat. There are some cracks due to age and climate. The carving gives the illusion that the trunks have been twisted. One column is slightly taller than the other, the shorter column measures 76.7 cm, the taller column measures 78.9 cm.
