Petite Stone Drum Pedestal, c. 1850

About the Item

Look closely and you can just make out the hand-carved details that once made this small stone stool resemble a drum. A ring of circles along the top and bottom imitates bosshead nails used to stretch a skin on an actual drum, and thin vertical lines etched into the surface exaggerate the barrel-like swell. Originally used in a Chinese garden or courtyard, it lives beautifully today outside or just as well inside.
