Japanese old garden stone / "Kurama stones" / stone object

About the Item

This is an old Japanese granite stone. In Japan, this stone is called Kurama stone. Originally, it refers to stone mined in Kurama, in the north of Kyoto City, but since similar stones are quarried all over Japan, it has come to be commonly called Kurama stone in Japan. The characteristic of this stone is that the "magnetic iron" contained in the stone oxidizes over time and turns brown. In other words, it has this atmosphere because it contains iron. This is still a light brown color, while other Kurama stones have turned brown with more iron rust. It is cut into various shapes, but this one has been processed into a large mortar shape. Kurama stones are generally used for stone paving, stone lanterns, and shoe removal stones. This shape is very interesting as an object, and it can of course be used as a garden stone, but it is also an attractive shape as a room interior. I think it would also create an atmosphere in the entrance or under the eaves. As you can see in the photo, I think it would be very nice to place an object or incense or potpourri inside this stone. Kuruma stones of this shape are hard to come by, so they are relatively rare. A highly recommended item. Weight: 11.65 kg [We are a company consisting of four different stores with four different brands. We offer a wide range of attractive items from all over the world with a focus on Japanese items. We offer Japanese antique furniture and tools that are different from the Japanese antique furniture and art that have been appreciated abroad. These tools were used in private homes and farmhouses in the past. They have been passed through a long time and have an attractive taste. The reality is that many of these items are now being discarded along with the demolition of houses. We are on a mission to re-evaluate these fascinating old objects and preserve them for future generations. And we have seen tens of thousands of items so far. We have used that experience to list the most fascinating items here. We can do this because of our long experience. We will rediscover the "beauty" produced in the life and culture of the common people, which is different from the Japanese art and culture that is known and scattered around the world, and present it to the world. ]
