LOUIS XV STYLE ORMOLU CHENETS OF EASTERN FIGURES France, circa 19th century unmarked acquired privately from Hubert de Givenchy for the Gutfreund Collection Item # 404BDY26A An exceedingly fine pair of Louis XV style chenets with robust Rococo flourishes of foliage curving and swirling around the Eastern figures, each seated on the body of the chenet over a textured ground while outward facing C-scrolls decorated with exquisitely chiseled rocaille decoration rise above. A rare find. Provenance: With Hubert de Givenchy The Collection of Mr. & Mrs. John H. Gutfreund, 834 Fifth Avenue, New York, acquired privately from the above Christie's, New York, 27 January 2021, lot 32, achieved $ 7,500 USD Private Collection, acquired from the above Literature: E. Eerdmans, Henri Samuel: Master of the French Interior, New York, 2018, p. 208-9. Measurements: 12 5/8" H x 8 3/4" D x 13 1/4" W Condition Report: Trace discoloration and tarnish to the gilding. Figures likely held elements in their hands at one point. Light wear to gilding, overall remaining vibrant.
