About the Item

At 244cm tall, these wrought iron driveway gates make a spectacular entrance to a property or garden. Originating from the 1890s, they were made at the hand of a Victorian blacksmith and showcase a splendour of craftsmanship and historical design. Stylised fleur-de-lis type finials make a sweeping statement across the concave arched top between ornate scrollwork regularly seen in traditional wrought iron gates. Complete with narrow vertical rails, these gates offer security and style, setting the stage for a beautiful country driveway or townhouse entrance. Wrought Iron Gates Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
