Views from above of Hasedera Temple and Itsukushima Shrine

About the Item

Rare pair of six-panel screens painted on paper, depicting views of Hasedera Temple and Itsukushima Shrine from above. The first shows Hasedera nestled in a spring landscape with pine and cherry blossom trees; the second depicts Itsukushima with the famous red torii emerging from the water and the shrine on stilts. Both scenes are embellished with gold dust hills and clouds, with silk frames and red lacquer. Period: early Edo period Size: 173 x 369 cm. Condition: excellent. There are slight cracks in the paper, slight discoloration and wear to the silk frame consistent with age.
