Chinese Export Qing Lacquered Four Panel Coromandel Screen
About the Item
Late 19th/Early 20th century Chinese export Qing Period four panel coromandel screen. The two-sided screen depicts a walled pavilion on one side and a dramatic white manchurian crane on the other side amid a treed landscape. The lacquered panels have faded from their original red lacquer into a deep, rich oxblood red hue. The lacquer has a desirable aged patina with craquelure. Numerous losses and wear add to the character of the screen to commensurate its age and use. The panels are conjoined and supported by patinated brass hardware and clad feet.
