Burmese Lacquerware is widely collected and mostly associated with Burmese Buddhist folk art and traditions. Also Burmese lacquerware has a storied past that dates back to the Elephant wars of the 16th century. The "elephant wars" refer to the Siamese-Burmese Wars, a series of conflicts between the Kingdom of Burma (now Myanmar) and the Kingdom of Siam (now Thailand), spanning several centuries. The Burmese originally acquired this art form from the Siam Kingdom, and adapted lacquerware into their culture creating a definitive Burmese style.
