Pair Cinnabar Urns, Original Carved Wood Stands, China, Late 19th Century

About the Item

A gorgeous pair of late 19th century carved cinnabar urns with their original hand-carved rosewood stands. The 17" tall urns are a perfect match, though not identical. Each side displays a scene and each scene is similar, but not precisely identical. The deeply carved and engraved urns represent the highest caliper artistry of the era. Chinese lapidary artists, wood carvers, and painters possessed incredible skill, using techniques dating back thousands of years. One urn has a crack along one edge; the other has a much smaller crack. Examine each image closely for a full picture of their beautiful condition. Dramatic, intricately magnificent, and in an uncommon geometric form, this pair of turn-of-the-previous-century urns have the lines, color and visual power to be a focal point. Or, include them within a collection of other decorative items and they compliment, not dominate.

Pair Folk Art Paintings on Wood Panel, 1980s, by Moses Tolliver "MoseT"
Located in Southbury, CT
My uncle Bob was a country lawyer in rural Alabama and Moses Tolliver was one of his friends and clients. The pair of original paintings you see here were given to my uncle by Mr. Tolliver in exchange for legal services in the 1980s. Both the human figure and the snake were painted on scrap wood paneling and each has an aluminum beer pull-tab on the back for hanging. The works have been framed so the pull tab is not visible; if you prefer, simply remove the frames and both pieces will be as created. The snake painting...
