About the Item

This is a very rare documented 1950's Clare Potter 2 piece vintage dress. Clare Potter is one of my favorite American mid century female fashion designers. She had an eye for color that was very progressive at the time and this vintage dress comes from my personal collection of her clothing. The top of this evening gown has covered buttons up the back and the skirt is gathered in the back had has a mini train. This evening ensemble is called a "dinner duet" in William Rose Rayon Silk Satin Faille and I am showing the original fashion layout image from the 1950's in the images. There are 17 back covered buttons, and you will love the slight peplum on the top, and the beautiful ballerina neckline that adds just the right amount of drama. I know that computer monitors can represent color quite differently, so if you are happen to have access to a pantone color swatch book and would like the closest color match, please let me know and I would be happy to send the number to you. BUST: 38" WAIST: 26" LENGTH of top from nape of neck to waist: 10" LENGTH of skirt from waist: 43" If you aren't familiar with Clare Potter, she was one of the original 17 women that Edna Woolman Chase, editor-in-chief of Vogue, asked to join Fashion Group International in 1928. She won Coty Awards and was known for her outstanding color combinations. I started collecting her clothing about 10 years ago because I was so impressed with the first dress I saw that had her label. I am always surprised that she hasn't gotten as much attention today as Claire McCardell or her other contemporaries because I find her designs and attention to detail exemplary. Once you've owned a piece of her clothing, you'll understand why I consider her to be one of the best!
