Original Civil War White Western Prairie Homesteader Shirtwaist Dress -XS, 1860s

About the Item

In astounding condition, this shirtwaist dress is a perfect example of what a pioneer woman might have worn on her journey to the American West during the mid-19th century. Its Western yoke and caballero-style cuffs are a fleeting nod to masculinity, but the tatted lace trim and full rear princess seams should remind contemporary women that feminine requisites—including a corset, bustle and petticoats—were still demanded. Long sleeve prairie dress with Peter Pan collar and caballero-style cuffs; front and rear diamond yoke and full rear princess seams. Trimmed in tatted lace at collar, cuffs and yoke; fully-buttoning front closure with tatted lace trim on either side of placket.
