Custom Convertible Length Brown-Black Horizontal Ranch Mink Coat – S, 1971

About the Item

Custom made for its owner in 1971 and professionally stored since, this one-of-a-kind ranch mink coat is remarkable both for its beauty and its practicality. Its horizontal 5” pelts not only create a striking modern geometry, but also accentuate the swing of the princess skirt. Most importantly however, its clever zip off hem converts the floor length silhouette to tea length for endless versatility. When unzipped, the 10” hem can also be worn as a mink stole (brooch shown not included in purchase). Brilliant. Full-length ranch mink princess coat; full notched collar coverts to high neck when closed at throat and funnel neck when closed around chin. Bracelet length sleeves and silk lined pockets each side. 10” zip off hem converts coat from full length to tea length, and hem may be used as stole. Faux double breasted front closure with elastic loops; black textured buttons with black inset crystals. Fully lined in heavyweight chocolate crêpe de chine with interior waist ties; hidden interior pocket at right breast seam. Monogrammed “MMW” inside right panel. fabric: mink, heavyweight crêpe de chine noteworthy: professionally fur clean only condition: very good. 2 missing button crystals; 2 buttons with light surface degradation; hidden button beneath collar has lost all surface sheen; interfacing inside of coat corners at zip off hemline lightly crumbling, but snap closed to prevent shedding repairs: none measurements collar: 5 ½” at widest shoulders: 15” sleeve length: 20” from shoulder, 16” from underarm sleeve circumference: 14” at upper arm, 12” at wrist bust: 36” - 38” waist: 36” hips: 44” length: 52” from shoulder, 45” from underarm; converts to 42” from shoulder and 35” from underarm when hem is removed sweep: 76” at full length, 62” at tea length label: Adorjan Friedrich (Chicago) size: no size tag present; comparable to modern size small – medium depending on what is worn underneath **please note a portion of all proceeds is donated to animal charities
