French Set of Four Crystal Glazed Pottery Vase by Serafino Ferraro, Vallauris
By Serafino Ferraro
Located in Atlanta, GA
Rare set of four pottery vases by Serafino Ferraro, Vallauris, circa 1990s. Crystalline enamel or crystallized glaze finish with lovely pearly reflections of a rare elegance. Vases in cream/white color, are covered with sort of snowflakes with a three-dimensional depth, as if we were looking at them through a kaleidoscope. Crystal glaze is usually rich in metal like zinc and colored with oxide or carbonate of cobalt or titanium over earthenware porcelain or pottery. This type of glaze is usually extremely fluid and obliges to grind the foot for finishing. All pieces marked underside with engraved Ferraro signature. Excellent vintage condition. Serafino Ferraro (1940-2017), from Italian origin (Sicily), mastered better than anyone else the crystallization of metals on the surface of his pottery. He made sculptures and decorative potteries in his studio, with the help of his son, Jose, they perpetuated the tradition of the creators of pottery in Vallauris. His creations recognized by many amateurs for the originality of the work were very often exhibited during several decades in Vallauris along with Pablo Picasso works...
