19th Century Paul Storr Silver Tea Urn
By Rundell, Bridge & Rundell, Paul Storr
Located in New Orleans, LA
This extraordinarily rare and masterfully crafted tea urn is by the hand of the master Georgian silversmith Paul Storr. Created by Storr while working for Rundell, Bridge and Rundell, Jewelers and Goldsmiths to the King, this magnificent piece truly represents the sophisticated style of the renowned firm and the enormous talents of Paul Storr. Applied and engraved decoration envelop this masterpiece equipped with a carved handle, lion's head spigot and spectacular lion's paw supports. The piece bears the arms of the Neave Baronetcy with those of Digby, for Sir Thomas Neave and his wife Frances Caroline, daughter of the Hon. William Digby, the Dean of Durham. Though he held no formal title, Storr enjoyed patronage from the most important and powerful figures of the period including King George III and the Prince of Wales, the future King George IV. His first major work was a gold font commissioned by the Duke of Portland in 1797, and in 1799 he created the “Battle of the Nile...

Pair of Coalport Porcelain Lozenge Dishes, Birds & Flowers Patt.759, 1815-1820
By Coalport Porcelain
Located in London, GB
This is a spectacular pair of oval dishes made by Coalport between 1815 and 1820. The dishes bear the famous and very wonderful bird pattern with the number 759. Panels with stunning hand painted birds and flowers are set in a cobalt blue background with rich gilt decoration. We also have two plates available in this pattern; please see separate listings. This pattern is very desired and doesn't come to the market often, so this is a rare opportunity. Coalport was one of the leading potters in 19th and 20th Century Staffordshire. They worked alongside other great potters such as Spode, Davenport and Minton, and came out with many innovative designs. When we say "Coalport" we usually think of the one Coalport factory that became famous, but in its beginning years there were two factories, one run by John Rose and the other by his brother Thomas Rose. Thomas Rose went into partnership with Robert Anstice and Robert Horton and they were located directly opposite John Rose, across the canal. The brothers' factories had much in common with each other and they shared many different shapes and patterns. Ultimately, the John Rose factory proved more profitable and John Rose bought Thomas' factory in 1814, making it the one Coalport factory that became so famous. Many of the Coalport items, of either factory, are now collectors' items. The stunning thing about pattern 759 is that each bird is different, as well as each flower formation. All birds and flowers are painted carefully in their own colours; they are all different species. Each bird is an individual with its own expression; in fact I once had a large dinner service...

King of Hanover Inkwell
By Rundell, Bridge & Rundell
Located in New Orleans, LA
The Duke of Cumberland, later Ernst Augustus I, King of Hanover, commissioned this highly important silver-gilt inkwell by John Bridge of the renowned silversmiths Rundell & Bridge, Royal Silversmiths to the crown. This beautiful piece is fashioned in a water lily motif, exhibiting a subtle naturalistic design. Its stunning provenance is indicated by the engraved King of Hanover coat of arms. This item predates the duke's ascension to the throne of Hanover, as indicated by the initials EDC, for Ernest, Duke of Cumberland, below a coronet carved into the inkwell cover. 10" diameter. Hallmarked 1831 The Duke of Cumberland and Teviotdale was the fifth son of King George III and uncle to Queen Victoria. His ascent to the throne of Hanover was due to his brothers' lack of legitimate heirs and to Salic law, which forbid a woman from becoming a Hanoverian monarch. The monarchies of Britain and Hanover had been linked since 1714, but at this point diverged. Queen Victoria subsequently demanded the return of the large collection of royal plate...
