Oversized Vintage Rabat Moroccan Rug, Hotel Lobby Size Carpet
By Rabat Village Women
Located in Dallas, TX
77201 Oversized Vintage Moroccan Rug, 13'10 x 18'07.
Representing an exclusive category of Moroccan carpets and a sign of wealth, this palatial Rabat Moroccan rug is a captivating vision of woven beauty. The detailed tribal design and vibrant colorway woven into this piece work together to. Clevery composed and colorfully curated, this oversized vintage Moroccan rug features six superimposed stepped diamond-shaped medallions in bright lime, sunflower yellow and tomato red spread across a creamy-biege field. A variety of ambiguous tribal symbols decorate the field between the medallions, including combs and burdocks. Combs and darts grace the corner spandrels, while stepped hexagons with diamond centers line the edges. The attractive border echoes the graphic designs of the central area and features fetter motifs in alternating colors separated by thin bars with diamond end-caps. Fetters traditionally symbolize family union, while combs, diamonds, and burdocks are seen to protect against evil. Not exactly subtle but enough to make a statement, this colorful Moroccan rug is charming and fun.
Unlike most other Moroccan rugs, Rabat city rugs exhibit Anatolian designs and influence, though it is unclear how these designs came to Morocco many centuries ago. According to Indianapolis Museum of Arts, The Fabric of Moroccan Life, the women weavers of Rabat tell a legend that one day 'a stork dropped into the courtyard of a house a piece of rug- whose colors and design were hitherto unknown in the land- the women weavers of the house saw it as a gift from heaven, a talisman, and a good omen, and so were inspired by it. The people of Rabat consider wool to be as precious as gold and a variety of rituals surround the making of their rugs. They are known to be able to create bright and saturated polychromatic color schemes with a narrow palette.
Perfect for a large entertaining space, hotel lobby, lounge area, drawing room, country club, academic library, golf locker room, trophy room, private Chambers, great room, wine cellar, executive suite, conservatory, state room, royal suite, billiards room, owners retreat, dining room, living room, or formal sitting room. Rustic yet refined, this oversized Moroccan rug would complement mountain living for luxury ski chalets, secluded hunting lodges and rustic ranches found in Montana, Colorado, Lake Tahoe, Wyoming, or the Adirondacks.
Rendered in variegated shades of beige, red, blue, green, amethyst, and yellow with other accent colors.

77202, Tribal style vintage Rabat Moroccan area rug, oversize rug, palace size carpet. This hand knotted wool vintage Rabat Moroccan rug features a four-and-one medallion design spread across a bright pumpkin field. The larger hooked diamond-shaped center medallion contains a superimposed stepped lozenge with a tree of life motif, while corresponding stepped lozenges in the corners feature Ashik güls with diamond centers. Additional columns of diamonds appear between the medallions, echoing the main border’s design. A simple running water border offsets the diagonally striped main border with outlined diamonds. Solid color narrow borders, known as listels, separate the primary borders. Woven in the Moroccan capital of Rabat, these rugs can be found in the homes of Moroccan elite. Unlike most other Moroccan rugs, Rabat city rugs exhibit Anatolian designs and influence, though it is unclear how these designs came to Morocco many centuries ago. According to Indianapolis Museum of Arts’ “The Fabric of Moroccan Life,” the women weavers of Rabat tell a legend that one day “a stork dropped into the courtyard of a house a piece of rug… whose colors and design were hitherto unknown in the land… the women weavers of the house saw it as a gift from heaven, a talisman, and a good omen, and so were inspired by it.” The people of Rabat consider wool to be as precious as gold and a variety of rituals surround the making of their rugs.
