John Ridgway Ironstone Bowl Hand-Painted pattern, William 1Vth Circa 1835
By John Ridgways
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a highly decorative, ironstone, twin handled circular footed Bowl by John Ridgway, dating to the English William 1Vth period, circa 1835 . The bowl has been carefully hand-painted in bold colorful enamels with a chinoiserie pattern of three oriental people travelling on a boat, pattern number 5057. It is also richly hand gilded. John Ridgway operated at his father’s celebrated Cauldon Place works, Shelton, Hanley, England, between 1830-1856, producing some fine porcelain and stone China of excellent quality. His stone China earthenwares and ironstone wares are discussed on page 305 of Godden's Guide to Ironstone, Stone and Granite Wares written by Geoffrey Godden for the Antique Collectors Club. This piece is fully marked to the base with an Imperial Stone China...

Poole Pottery Modernist Floral Vase
By Poole Pottery
Located in Fort Lauderdale, FL
The design of this Poole Pottery vase belongs to a relatively understudied figure in ceramics design history: Truda Carter. Working as lead designer at the firm for nearly 30 years, Carter was responsible for developing the Poole aesthetic. This vase represents the vibrant Modernist style for which she, and consequently Poole Pottery, was known. This Poole Pottery vase features Truda Carter’s RK pattern, which combines vibrant florals framed within geometric borders. The design is slightly more delicate than other Poole patterns, and the relative sparseness of the pattern allows the beautiful white earthenware to show through. Truda took inspiration for her designs from a variety of sources, including Dutch Gouda pottery, Jacobean embroidery...

Yes, some Poole pottery may be worth money. Selling prices for Poole pieces are often in the hundreds of dollars, with collectors especially eager to acquire vases, bowls, plates and other items crafted during the 1920s and ’30s when Poole produced pottery that displayed Art Deco design characteristics. • 1stDibs ExpertOctober 30, 2024
Yes, some Poole pottery may be worth some money. Specifically, the British maker's Art Deco pieces from the 1920s and ’30s and its mid-century modern items from the 1950s and ’60s tend to be popular among collectors. In addition to age and style, the type and condition of a Poole piece will also contribute to its potential value. To find the estimated fair market value for your pottery, use the services of a certified appraiser or experienced antique dealer. Find a variety of Poole pottery on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertSeptember 23, 2024
One way to identify the age of Poole pottery is by using its markings. Poole changed its markings many times over the years, so by comparing the markings on your piece to those shared via trusted online resources, you can get a rough idea of its age. For example, a mark that features a dolphin sandwiched between the words "Poole" and "Pottery" centered inside a square-shaped border usually dates between 1955 and 1959. If you need help with the dating process, a certified appraiser or knowledgeable antique dealer can be of assistance. On 1stDibs, shop a selection of Poole pottery.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022

Yes, some Poole pottery is valuable. The age, type, style and condition of a piece will largely determine how much it is worth. Generally, the maker's Art Deco pieces that date from the 1920s to 1930s are the most widely sought and often fetch the highest prices. A certified appraiser or knowledgeable antiques dealer can provide you with an estimated value for your piece. On 1stDibs, explore a range of Poole pottery.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
