Harry Rogers

Australian, 1929-2012

Australian born poster artist Harry Rogers enjoyed a long and productive association with Qantas, designing the Qantas logo-font in the mid-1960s. He also devised a variety of poster series from the 1950s through to the 1970s, which promoted Qantas as Australia’s premier international airline. As a freelancer, Harry also worked for other clients, including Avon, Blue Circle Southern Cement, Coca Cola, Colgate-Palmolive and Kimberly-Clarke.

'Taxi Driver' Original Vintage Movie Poster, Australian, 1976
By Guy Peelleart
Located in Devon, GB
Set amidst the moral decay of New York City following the Vietnam War and Watergate scandal, Martin Scorsese's 1976 psychological thriller "Taxi Driver" starred Robert De Niro as a lonely and disturbed anti-hero cab driver and war vet growing increasingly alienated and unhinged as his dreams of cleaning up the corrupt and sleazy city lead him down a path of violence, plotting to assassinate both a presidential candidate and the pimp of an underage prostitute, played by a 12 year old Jodie Foster. Widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, it was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor for De Niro and Best Supporting Actor for Foster. De Niro's "You talkin' to me?" scene, where he imagines a confrontation in front of a mirror, gave us one of the most iconic quotes in movie history. This Australian Daybill poster features the same atmospheric Guy Peellaert...

Original Vintage TWA Portugal 1960s Travel Airline Poster, David Klein
By David Klein
Located in Bath, Somerset
Original vintage TWA Portugal 1960s travel advertising poster featuring a wonderful design by American artist David Klein. We adore Klein's typically stylised and colourful design of a mermaid, Portuguese fishing boat and windmill. Trans World Airlines (TWA) was a major airline in the United States that operated from 1930 until it was acquired by American Airlines in 2001. It was formed as Transcontinental & Western Air to operate a route from New York City to Los Angeles, soon followed by multiple National routes. Howard Hughes acquired control of TWA in 1939, and after World War II led the expansion of the airline to serve Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, making TWA a second unofficial flag carrier of the United States after Pan Am. David Klein (1918 – 2005) was an American artist, best known for his influential work in advertising. Although he produced illustrations for Broadway theatrical productions, Hollywood films, the United States Army, and numerous corporate clients, Klein is best remembered for the iconic travel images he created for Howard Hughes and Trans World Airlines (TWA). Between approximately 1955–1965, Klein designed numerous award-winning travel advertisement posters, the bulk for TWA, many of which are now considered emblematic of the 1960s Jet Age. In 1957 New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) added Klein's iconic TWA Times Square...
