C R Mackintosh Guthrie & Wells, Glasgow School Stained Green Cypress Wardrobe
By Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Guthrie and Wells
Located in London, GB
Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928), made by Guthrie and Wells.
A Glasgow School Arts and Crafts stained green cypress wood wardrobe, with white opaque textured square glass details to the top. The central door and a large lower drawer with brass heart escutcheons and brass stylized foliate hinges and handles.
The simple case construction and stained green cypress wood and grouping of square details are typical of Mackintosh's early work for Guthrie and Wells including items bought by William Davidson for his house Gladsmuir, Kilmacolm. The brass cabinet fittings are identical on a number of pieces, see Billcliffe, p. 33, fig. 1895.2 and 1895.3 for a washstand and dressing table designed by Mackintosh, also made by Guthrie and Wells. Also a white painted wardrobe/compactum.
The overhanging cornice has been adapted with hinged flaps to move it up a narrow staircase.

- Is Maison Margiela well known?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertMarch 15, 2024Yes, Maison Margiela is well known. In fact, the fashion house's clothing designs and vintage shoes have become cult-collector obsessions in recent years. Founder Martin Margiela has gained acclaim for toying with creative and aesthetic paradoxes that persist in fashion today through pieces like his famous corset dresses made from tailoring dummies and his Spring/Summer 2001 shirt patchworked from vintage clothing labels. - 1stDibs ExpertNovember 22, 2024What bracelets go well with watches depends on what the timepieces look like. You can try matching materials. For example, pair a leather bracelet with a leather strap watch or a sparkling diamond tennis bracelet with a watch with diamonds on its case. Contrasting thicknesses is another way to get a pulled-together look. For example, you can stack skinny chain bracelets above and below a wide bracelet watch or pair a slim link-band watch with a chunky statement cuff. Beaded bracelets, rope bracelets and bangles can all complement the right watch as well. Don't be afraid to experiment with mixing and matching to see how different pieces in your collection look when layered together. Shop a wide range of women's watches and bracelets on 1stDibs.

- 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 13, 2024Many colors go well with gray furniture. In fact, one of the reasons many people choose gray for furniture is because the color is neutral enough to coordinate with a wide range of palettes. Gray can blend nicely with other neutrals like black and white, or it can soften vibrant jewel-tones or cool down earth tones. Wood finishes are also an attractive complement to gray. On 1stDibs, shop a wide range of gray furniture.
- 1stDibs ExpertMarch 31, 2023Many colors can go with a green dress. Shades of brown and beige often look attractive with green. Other neutral colors like white, cream and black may also look nice. You can also try mixing colors from the same family. Think earth tones like orange and mustard yellow with olive green or jewel tones like cobalt and orchid with emerald green. On 1stDibs, find a collection of dresses from some of the world's top boutiques.
- 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 22, 2021Colors that go well together, or complementary colors, are those opposite it on the color wheel. Therefore the colors that go best with purple are yellow, orange and green so that they balance eachother out.
