Darla Jackson Furniture

Darla Jackson was born in Pennsylvania in 1981. She received a BFA in Sculpture from Moore College of Art in 2003 and after receiving a Knight Arts Challenge Grant in 2011, founded the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym. She currently lives and works in Philadelphia. Jackson has had multiple solo exhibitions at venues, which include the Philadelphia Art Alliance, the University of the Arts and a Wind Challenge exhibition at the Fleisher Art Memorial. Her sculpture has been shown in a long list of exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Her work is held both in private collections and institutionally. Jackson was awarded two grants from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, which she used to start the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym, a membership-based community sculpture studio. Jackson has also received multiple fellowships and awards, including a CFEVA fellowship and the Ellen Lee Walker Amelia Prize from the Woodmere Art Museum. She has lectured about her work at venues including The Barnes Foundation and various colleges throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. Artist statement: My sculpture is an exploration of the human psyche, in which I strive to show the duality of emotions. In order to express these ideas, I use feelings that have been turned into recognizable visual objects, or symbols and juxtapose them with other elements to create this duality. Through the anthropomorphism of animals, the use of strong body language of figures and the use of symbolism, I can convey my emotions and ideas in a way that is more approachable for viewers. The end result is familiarity with an oddness that makes it compelling.

Murano Glass Rabbit Sculpture by Ferro & Lazzarini Uranium 1960s
By Ferro & Lazzarini 1
Located in Glasgow, GB
A 1960s Murano glass rabbit sculpture by the renowned Venetian glassmakers Ferro & Lazzarini. This retro Murano glass sculpture combines the kitsch style of 1960s Italy with the exceptional Venetian glassmaking skill that has made the island of Murano so famous. The main glass used in crafting the sculpture is uranium glass, which reveals a beautiful, soft lime-green hue in natural light and becomes luminous, emitting a bright fluorescence under UV light. The piece is further decorated with a vivid blue ribbon of Murano glass, highlighting the rabbit’s back. Hand-applied details in vibrant scarlet red glass dot the paws, nose, and eyes, creating a vibrant composition of form and colour. Measuring 10 cm tall, 6.5 cm deep, and 16.5 cm wide, it is in excellent condition with no chips or damage. A rare and collectible piece of Murano glass art that embodies the style of 1960s Italy with the skill and talent of the Ferro and Lazzarini...

Unique Pair of Contemporary Art Painted Fiberglass Boy Sculptures Signed
Located in Dallas, TX
Presenting a unique pair of contemporary art painted fiberglass boy sculptures signed… by the artist … we think “Laqi”. These sculptures are a pair of the ‘cutest’ pieces of contemporary sculpture that we have seen for a while. We really wish we could identify and learn more about the artist, but what we do know is that these belonged to a former artist and art and collectibles dealer in New Orleans. She treasured these and they came with her to Dallas. She was very active in the New Orleans art scene in the early 1990s. The sculptures appear to also have a practical function as planters. One features a boy’s denim jeans and waistcoat in a standing position and the other a boy’s denim overalls in a seated position. Both are made of fiberglass which has been painted and textured. Exceptional detail to the outfit. Right down to the buttons and clasps and the sneakers and shoelaces. Mottled green and black in color. We cannot find anything quite like these anywhere!! Specific provenance: These sculptures were acquired by Ms. Naomi Baggett in or circa 1990-1999. Originally from North Carolina, an Air Force Veteran and JAG Advocate, Ms. Baggett after her service moved to New Orleans and worked as a paralegal until setting up and operating an Art & Curiosities Store in the famous New Orleans Hotel Montleone between 1990 and 1995. Her store was called ‘Baggetelle’. It was featured in various industry magazines and hotel documentation. The store specialized in selling miniature French Quarter Houses which were used as jewelry boxes. Ms. Baggett was an artist herself and handmade and hand painted these houses along with a partner. She received orders for these miniature houses...
