Daniel Sherrin Antique Countryside Landscape of Evening
By Daniel Sherrin
Located in Shippensburg, PA
Daniel Sherrin was born in Brentwood, Essex to the successful painter John Sherrin, from whom he received his initial training. Later he would study under B.W. Leader, the renowned landscape artist, and produced a number of dune-scapes distinctly influenced by Leader’s work. His work developed into bucolic landscape scenes and he became particularly well regarded for his atmospheric handling of the changing of seasons. He was commissioned to paint the royal palace Sandringham for King George V, a painting which is presently displayed in Buckingham Palace. The present example is a very fine and rather complex countryside landscape captured during the last hours of dusk. With the sun setting over the horizon, bands of orange meld into the remnants of a blue sky over a handful of farms set behind overgrown fields. A path meanders across a rustic bridge...
