History of Arnold Defense From sprockets to rockets: Our diverse manufacturing history It may surprise you to learn that our company originally manufactured trendy dinette sets and household furniture in a large factory on Semple Avenue in St. Louis, beginning in 1945 under the name of Chromcraft, a division of the American Fixture Corporation. The legacy company manufactured a wide range of popular furniture and commercial goods, ranging from desks and record racks, to ammunition containers to skateboards and even a few carousel horses through the late 1960s. In 1961, the dinette business was relocated to Mississippi, and Chromcraft also began producing rocket launchers for the government at the St. Louis facility. By 1967, the company had changed its name to Techfab and had upwards of 800 employees who produced 3,000 chairs, 250 case goods, 600 cardboard-tubed rocket launchers and up to 100 aluminum-tubed rocket launchers every day. In 1969, the company was purchased by Harvard Industries, and the business expanded into electronics during the 1970s. They began renting additional manufacturing space in Arnold, Mo., approximately 20 miles south of St. Louis, so the electronics business could take root. In 1976, the rental site was purchased outright and had expanded four times by the mid-1980s. During this time, the company had approximately 150 employees who designed and produced many handy everyday items such as smoke detectors, security systems, hospital bed switches, CB monitors, circuit boards, fuel primer pumps and remote automobile starters. Over the next decade, the company earned more defense contracts for rocket launchers and decided to divest the furniture business. The St. Louis facility was closed in 1998, and the rocket launcher business moved to the Arnold location. In that same timeframe, an 8,000-square foot warehouse was constructed to house production materials and the die-cast fuel pump...

A pair of minimalist lounge chairs made out of solid pine wood in Italy during the 1970s.
These armchairs have chunky arms and a solid wooden frame made out of large slabs of wood. The wood has a beautiful golden shade that adds warmth to any room. The taupe-grey soft matte velvet cushions complement the armchairs perfectly. They are a standout piece that can also blend in with any interior. The armchairs are both functional and beautiful in their simplicity.
They are rather small in size, making them perfect for any kind of smaller interior project.

Mid-Century Modern Chromcraft Flat Bar Chrome Chairs One Blue One Green Vinyl
By Chromcraft
Located in Topeka, KS
Wonderful Chromcraft Mid-Century Modern flat-bar chromed steel chairs one in cornflower blue vinyl and one in grass green vinyl. The chrome is in fabulous condition. The vinyl upholstery is in wonderful condition apart from several small nicks that have been repaired on the arm sides and to the base of the seat where it is wrapped around the steel frame. In our opinion, this is nothing that keeps you from using their beautiful colorful upholstery and nothing more than you would expect with age. Please see photos, circa 1970-1980. We have priced these chairs separately, so choose one or two.
These are awesome Mid-Century Modern chairs! Their wonderful flat-bar chromed steel is gorgeous and the seat and back seem to float between the square side frames that make up the one-piece arms and legs. Plus, the arms are padded for added comfort. One chair is a fabulous cornflower blue and the other a warm and friendly grass green. Both colors are bright and vibrant against the shine of the chrome. They are similar in style to chairs by Milo Baughman and of high-quality construction that can be compared to the Knoll Brno Chair. However, these were produced by Chromcraft Corporation of Senatobia, Mississippi.
Chromcraft was originally named American Fixture and Manufacturing Company and began business in Missouri in 1908. In 1939 they began making metal furniture. Since chrome was the material of the age they named that division Chromcraft and later incorporated it as a separate company in 1955. By 1960 needing to expand they constructed a plant in Senatobia, Mississippi. Changing hands and consolidating with other companies they remained in business until 2014. In 2015 their assets were purchased, and they once again began production. Chromcraft is best known for its fabulous midcentury dinette...
