French Ceramic Ball Vase with Nucleations by Monique Cavallini - circa 2000
By Cécile Dein
Located in Camblanes et Meynac, FR
French ceramic ball vase with nucleations by Monique Cavallini - Circa 2000
Very delicately glazed ball vase in soft plant-inspired tones: earthy brown and leafy green. The vase is glazed with nucleations, similar to crystallizations, obtained with hay ash and titanium. The result is beautiful.
The vase is in very good condition.
It is engraved "M.Cavallini".
--------------------
An important centre of French ceramics since Antiquity, Vallauris, located 6km from Antibes on the French Riviera, experienced a major boom at the end of the 19th century thanks to the Massier family of ceramists.
At the end of the second world war, painters, sculptors and masters of ceramics settled in Vallauris, starting with Picasso in 1948. He perfected his ceramic technique at the Madoura workshop with Suzanne Ramié.
Chagall, Matisse, Cocteau, Miro, Braque, Rouault, Fernand Léger, who came to stay in Vallauris, created a stir in this creative centre. The artistic production with its abstract and geometric decorations, its new textures and its rich modern glazes, will definitively replace the traditional pottery.

Large Blue-Purple Ceramic Vase with French Coq by Jacques Pouchain, circa 1950s
By Jacques Pouchain and Atelier Dielufit
Located in London, GB
Jacques Pouchain (1925-2005) left Paris and gave up his architectural training in the 1950s for the South of France to devote himself to art and his pottery studio at Dieulefit. He produced highly personal work and more commercial pieces as well both revealing a modern approach to pottery. This large ceramic vase (circa 1950s) of stunning violet blue-purple is weighty and reveals one of his trademark birds - in this case a large rooster and then several smaller ones - etched Sgraffito-style in a visual tic-tac-toe. The hallmark etching on the vase bottom...

Japan, Spectacular Ceramic Vase by Akira Arakawa circa 2000
Located in PARIS, FR
Akira Arakawa, born in 1950 in Hamamatsu and a graduate of Kokushikan University’s Department of Architecture, has carved a unique path in Japanese ceramics. Although trained in architecture, he is a self-taught ceramic artist, renowned for his exceptional mastery of crystallized glazes. This intricate technique demands precise temperature control, reaching extreme levels of 1250°C to 1300°C to melt the glaze components thoroughly. As the temperature slowly decreases, crystals emerge, forming delicate flower or snowflake patterns on the glazed surface. By adding zinc or rutile, Arakawa can manipulate the size and shape of these crystals.
This meticulous process results in captivating works like this deeply carved vase, where blue crystals stand out against earthy backgrounds, creating striking contrasts between crystallized and vitrified areas. Arakawa’s technical excellence has earned him numerous accolades, particularly in Japan’s ceramic competitions and exhibitions.
Arakawa’s work has been featured in prestigious events, including multiple selections for the Nissin Noodle Bowl...
