Balenciaga Bracelets

Spanish

Starting as a modest boutique, Balenciaga evolved to transform the landscape of women’s fashion with shapes and contours during the middle of the 20th century that were nothing less than groundbreaking. Today, the brand is as venturesome as ever and is well known for its shoes, handbags, sneakers, streetwear and other clothing and accessories.

Though he was born in the quiet fishing village of Getaria in Spain’s Basque region, Cristóbal Balenciaga (1895–1972) was destined to reshape modern fashion. As a child, he worked alongside his seamstress mother. Showing immense talent, he earned commissions as a teenager from local patron Marquesa de Casa Torres, who paid for his tailoring education in Madrid. In 1917, he established his first haute couture house — named Eisa, for his mother — in the trendy resort town San Sebastián. He soon followed it with boutiques in Madrid and Barcelona, drawing such clientele as the Spanish royal family.

When the Spanish Civil War put a hold on his prospects in Spain, the designer moved to Paris, opening a house on Avenue Georges V in 1937. There, Balenciaga rubbed elbows with fashion greats like Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli and quickly won over clients like Gloria Guinness, Pauline de Rothschild and Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor.

As a couturier, Balenciaga drew from his Spanish heritage for ideas, riffing on everything from matador costumes and flamenco dresses to the paintings of Diego Velázquez, whose portraits of Spanish princesses famously inspired Balenciaga’s Infanta gown.

An expert tailor, he experimented with sculptural silhouettes that didn’t follow the body. Some of his notable designs include the 1953 balloon jacket, and from 1957, the cocoon coat, the baby-doll dress and the sack dress, which he popularized with his good friend designer Hubert de Givenchy. All of these could be considered not just the masterpieces of haute couture, but also objets d’art in their own right, leading to Balenciaga’s nickname, “The Master.”

Balenciaga continued designing until 1968, when he retired after three decades of influential work and his fashion house went dormant. The rights to Balenciaga were acquired by Jacques Bogart S.A. in 1986. Under designer Michel Goma, who focused on ready-to-wear, the brand experienced a resurgence, with his first collection introduced in 1987.

The brand returned to high fashion with the arrival of designer Josephus Thimister in 1992. It has since been led by a series of creative directors who have paid homage to Balenciaga’s iconic designs, including Nicolas Ghesquière, Alexander Wang and, most recently, Demna Gvasalia. In 2011, a museum celebrating Balenciaga’s legacy opened in his hometown in Spain, commemorating where it all began.

Boucheron Bracelet 18k White Gold Diamond Estate Jewelry
By Boucheron
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
An exquisite Boucheron bracelet made of 18 karat white gold and diamond. This spectacular bracelet has a unique, outstanding design. It comprises of ten flexible gold and diamond strings running towards each other. The strings meet in the middle, creating a layered loop crafted as a stylized drop. This white gold and diamond bracelet is a fascinating piece, airy and substantially sparkly at the same time. The central element creates an amazing effect of the diamonds floating above the wrist. The bracelet is made of 18 karat white gold and features 273 round brilliant cut diamonds, with the total weight of 31.09 carats. The diamonds are of F-G color, VVS2-VS1 clarity. This Boucheron bracelet measures 6 ¾” x 1 ½” (17.5 x 3.8 cm) and weighs 90.3 grams. The bracelet is stamped with the Boucheron maker's marks, hallmarks for 18k gold, serial number. About Estate Jewelry: Buying jewelry online might be challenging. The quality of the making has not gotten better over the time while the design is getting more and more generic. Add ever rising prices and you could end up with not finding anything suitable. To purchase a high-quality jewelry piece for an obtainable price consider buying estate items. • Quality vs Quantity Estate pieces mostly belong to the times when jewels were handmade and not mass produced. There were simply less jewelry makers at that time and they cared about their reputation. Opposed to the current fast fashion approach, life pace was in general slower. That allowed makers to take more time to craft truly quality pieces. • Fair-Priced vs Overpriced Designer pieces aka signed pieces can cost multiple times more than their unsigned equivalents. We pay not only for an item itself but also for the brand advertising campaigns and all the buzz the name is creating. Prices for estate jewelry form differently and mostly depend on the cost paid by a seller. A pre-owned Bulgari ring and a brand-new Bulgari ring have a very appealing price difference. Ask your local jewelry store about a retail price of the desired piece and you’d be pleasantly surprised. • True value vs Seasonal rush Pre-owned jewelry retains its value. Over the time it gets rare and more expensive. Think purchasing a new car that loses its value right after you left your dealer versus buying a vintage vehicle. At Nadine Krakov Collection...

Balenciaga agneau refers to the type of leather this brand uses. Typically it uses Balenciaga cheve, which is goatskin, or it uses agneau, which is lambskin. The cheve line was discontinued in 2008 because the softer agneau was introduced in 2007, and the agneau continues to be what is used for the majority of Balenciaga’s bags. In 2013, the cheve leather was brought back for select bags and may still crop up once in a while, but it isn’t common. The real name of Balenciaga was Cristóbal Balenciaga. He was born in the quiet fishing village of Getaria in Spain’s Basque region in 1895. In 1917, he established his first haute couture house — named Eisa for his mother — in the trendy resort town of San Sebastián. He soon followed it with boutiques in Madrid and Barcelona, drawing such clientele as the Spanish royal family. When the Spanish Civil War put a hold on his prospects in Spain, the designer moved to Paris, opening a house on Avenue Georges V in 1937. As an expert tailor, he experimented with sculptural silhouettes that didn’t follow the body. His notable designs include the 1953 balloon jacket and from 1957, the cocoon coat, the baby-doll dress and the sack dress, which he popularized with his good friend designer Hubert de Givenchy. All of these could be considered not just the masterpieces of haute couture but also objets d’art in their own right, leading to Balenciaga’s nickname, “The Master.” On 1stDibs, find a selection of Balenciaga apparel and accessories.
