About the Item
"Cat Under the Bridge" is a miniature bronze animal sculpture with a black brown patina. The cat seems to have been suddenly discovered and looks very surprised. It is very life-like, yet as in all of Bornstein's work, it is not overly detailed. This very small sculpture can be placed on a table, desk or shelf, or in a niche.
Edition of 5. The artist notes: "I fed the cat and his brethren after discovering them—the only fair thing to do after making a sculpture of him. While he has since passed away, I regularly feed the others—and participate in “TNR” (trap neuter return for feral cats in our area)".
Brooklyn, New York artist Noa Bornstein describes herself as “a draw-er”. Many of her sculptures begin as a quick drawing or impression - from memory, from dreams, or from life itself. “Watching a man walking down the street, I take out my little pad and am compelled to capture something of his gait, the rhythm, shape, whatever attracts my attention,” says Bornstein.
Figurative sculptor and painter Noa Bornstein was born in San Rafael, California, and grew up mostly in Los Angeles. She has lived and worked in New York City since 1986. Bornstein holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of California at Santa Cruz. Her sculptures have been shown in many indoor and outdoor venues, including at the Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art in Florida, the Rotunda Gallery in Brooklyn, and Grounds for Sculpture, Toad Hall Gallery in New Jersey. Public installations include Lakeland, Florida, sponsored by the Polk Museum of Art, TriBeCa Park in Manhattan, as well as several parks in New Jersey and Baltimore. In 2009, the Walter Randel Gallery in New York City exhibited Bornstein’s sculptures as part of a group show integrated with ancient sculptures from around the world. Her work has been featured in Art in America and in Artnews, among many other publications.

Jack Kerouac was born Jean-Louis Lebris de Kerouac in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1922, to French-Canadian parents. He won an athletic scholarship to Columbia University, where he met Allen Ginsberg and William Burroughs, but dropped out after one year after an argument with the football coach. He then became a merchant seaman all through World War II, with the idea of becoming a traveler and novelist in the tradition of Jack London and Thomas Wolfe.
After Kerouac's stint in the Merchant Marines, he settled in New York and began his first novel, “The Town and the City”, which took about two years. "I was born and raised in Chicago," Linn says, "and in 1956 before my 13th birthday, my father took me to Maxwell Street to buy me my first suit. This was a momentous occasion, not because I was getting a suit, but it was my introduction to the blues. Maxwell Street was the center of Jewish pushcart commerce and haberdashery emporiums, it was also where black blues musicians congregated, played, and thrived in harmony with their neighbors. My dad let me stay and listen that day and I became a life-long fan."
