About the Item
Opkijkende Uil no. 2 Owl Looking Up Bronze Sculpture Animal In Stock
Evert den Hartog (born in Groot-Ammers, The Netherlands in 1949) followed his education to be a sculptor at the Rotterdam Academy of Visual Arts. In the years 1971-1976 his teachers of sculpture were Arie Teeuwisse, Bram Roth, Gijs Voskuil and others. In the first years after the Art Academy he mainly made ceramic sculptures, until he decided to cast bronze sculptures with a colleague. While working in the bronze foundry he learned all the tricks of the trade.
The sculptures of Evert den Hartog are presently casted at Art Casting art foundry in Belgium. His favourite subjects are animals in a wide variety. Birds and bulls are a main subject in his work. The birds, allthough made in bronze seem to be weightless. They are balancing on one leg or are gliding freely in the air. Sometimes connected only by the tip of their wings. Den Hartog is constantly looking to freeze the moment in his statues. The observer becomes aware of that particular moment. Humor is an element he likes to add to his sculptures. It gives them an airy and natural look. He carried out a lot of commissions and his statues were placed in Kobe (Japan), Dallas (USA), Jakarta and Antwerp. In the Netherlands his sculptures are exhibited in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and many other places.

14"high signed and numbered AP/30 Bronze heron in repose
This particular casting is available on the secondary market from an original purchaser. It is in excellent condition, sold as pictured. This artist's proof has been in the possession of another bronze artist who got the sculpture directly from Kent Ullberg. It has been very well cared for. The casting is heavier than most, appears to be a solid casting.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
A native of Sweden, Kent Ullberg is recognized as one of the world's foremost wildlife sculptors. He studied at the Swedish University College of Art in Stockholm and worked at museums in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Africa and Denver, CO. After living in Botswana, Africa, for seven years he has made his home permanently in the United States where he now lives on Padre Island, Corpus Christi, TX. He also maintains a studio in Loveland, CO.
Ullberg is a member of numerous art organizations and has been honored with many prestigious awards. In 1990 his peers elected him a Full Academician (NA), thus making him the first wildlife artist since John James Audubon to receive one of the greatest tributes in American art. A selection of his memberships include the National Sculpture Society; the American Society of Marine Art; the Allied Artists of America; Nature in Art, Sandhurst, UK; the National Academy of Western Art in Oklahoma City, OK which awarded him the Prix de West, the foremost recognition in Western Art. In 2010 he received the Briscoe Legacy Award and in 2016 the lifetime achievement award from the Society of Animal Artists.
Best known for his monumental works executed for museums and municipalities across the globe, his Fort Lauderdale, FL, and his Omaha, NE installations are the largest bronze wildlife compositions ever done, spanning several city blocks. Both earned him the coveted Henry Hering...

"Just as the ancients danced to call upon the spirits in nature,
we too can dance to find the spirits within ourselves
that have long been buried and forgotten." - Anna Halprin
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Denny Haskew currently resides in Loveland, Colorado where he is actively engaged in the art industry as a sculptor. He received his degree from the University of Utah, then served two years in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Having spent numerous years as a guide and ski instructor, Denny has learned to love the rivers and mountains of the western states of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, and Utah. After moving to Loveland, a hub of successful working sculptors, he wasted no time in getting monumental sculpture experience through working with renowned sculptors including Fritz White and Kent Ullberg N.A. Since 1987, Denny has created and placed dozens of monumental compositions; spanning the full spectrum of the figurative genre.
As a member of the Potawatomi Citizen Nation, it is only natural for his artwork to follow the Native American culture. His art has not been limited to Native American and southwestern subjects, however, as he frequently explores abstract forms placing emphasis on the qualities of the metal and stone used. As a Charter member of the National Sculptors' Guild and being close to other sculptors and the Loveland area
foundries has helped him to master all the foundry processes involved in producing a desirable and lasting monumental bronze sculpture.
Over 50 major public placements include the Smithsonian Institution, DC.; the Gilcrease Museum, OK; Cerritos, CA; Little Rock, AR; the Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota Sioux collection, MN, and the Barona Band of Mission Indians...
