About the Item
A celebrated American artist, Rob Lorenson has been creating uniquely dynamic abstract sculptures for more than 30 years. Blue Princess appears almost figurative in form as three long curved beams form a tripod that supports two halves of a circle. Forged from aluminum, this piece is coated in an arresting shiny deep blue.
“It’s great fun. I can’t imagine doing anything else. The intrinsic reward that comes from making something from nothing ... something out of a flat sheet of metal that is then cut and bent and welded and ground, fined and painted. There’s a great reward in getting to the finished product.”
Rob Lorenson was born in Iowa in 1969. He had an early interest in art and sculpture and attended The University of Northern Iowa on an arts scholarship. Graduate school followed at the Northern University of Illinois where he attained an MFA in sculpture. Lorenson has taught art history and sculpture at several US universities, finally landing at Bridgewater University in Massachusetts where he still teaches today. He has always continued his own art practice, has been represented by a number of American galleries and has placed works in more than 300 private and public settings.

Rob Lorenson
Rob Lorenson received his BFA from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and an MFA from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Since 1999 he has lived and worked in southeastern Massachusetts. His works have been included in several exhibitions, including Pier Walk in Chicago, the Sarasota Season of Sculpture and the Convergence International Arts Festival in Providence. Lorenson's work is included in over 200 public and private collections from small tabletop pieces to 16' large scale sculptures.
