About the Item
Modern abstract mixed media sculpture by Texas artist McKay Otto. The work features steel arms twisting out of a wood center pillar that is attached to a cement base. Signed, dated, and numbered on the underside of the base.
Artist Biography: McKay Otto’s work represents a dynamic way of contemplating art, where he takes the viewer into new dimensions, breaking a traditional way of seeing. His paintings have a hidden meaning: when they are seen in the dark, Otto’s paintings reveal another work of art that is only unveiled and visible when not in the light. This uncommon and rare experience that enlightens the viewer truly gives meaning to what he is attempting to convey. He not only surprises us with his ability to play with light and darkness, but his research for new materials that characterize his canvases amaze and delight as well. It is in this way that McKay Otto was able to break the traditional two-dimensional plane into the three- dimensional. The experience of contemplating McKay’s work, changes, evolves, and is different for everyone who perceives it.
As McKay once said, “There’s always light in the dark, you just have to look beyond”. McKay Otto has created a new visual language with indirect reflections of light, color, and geometrical forms, achieving true abstraction. Going further than any other artist, his unique canvases transcend the three-dimensional realm into a universal experience.

View AllRed, Purple, and Blue Modernist Abstract Biomorphic Mobile Sculpture
By Jon Krawczyk
Located in Houston, TX
Red, purple, and blue modernist biomorphic mobile sculpture by Jon Jon Krawczyk. Signed by the artist at the bottom of the piece.
Artist Biography: A graduate of Connecticut College, Krawczyk has studied fine art throughout Europe and apprenticed with various acclaimed sculptors. He realizes his biomorphic sculptures by cutting sheet stainless steel or bronze and welding, pounding and shaping with focused heat. Each sculpture is therefore unique, as the works are never cast from a mold.
Krawczyk draws inspiration from artists such as Picasso, Henry Moore and David Smith. He is not only influenced by the obvious masterful techniques of these artists, but also by their philosophies of the sculptural process.
Jon Krawczyk works in stainless steel, either brushed or highly polished, and in bronze, to which he applies intense patinas of earth tones and bright blues and greens. These works appear to have the geological marks of boulders, as sentinels that look comfortable in natural environments, can be abstract tendrils or wispy smoke-like forms that defy gravity, or long, thin, yet powerful lines that seem to jump into the sky. His most recent highly polished stainless steel sculptures...

Modernist Sculpture Figural Portrait Bust Brutalist Wire Work
By Irving George Lehman
Located in Surfside, FL
This piece is unsigned. Irving Lehman (1900-1983) was an American Jewish painter, sculptor, engraver, and designer. Born in Kiev in then Russia, Lehman studied at the Art Students League, Cooper Union and the National Academy of Art and spent much of his working life in New York City. Part of the Abstract Expressionist school, he worked in oil and watercolor as a painter and in metal and steel as a sculptor; his works have been shown in galleries in England, France, Italy, Israel and Japan, and were included in an international traveling exhibition in Europe in 1951. Like many other artists of his generation, he painted for the WPA and then adopted a more abstract style after WWII.
Lehman spent much of his career in NYC. He had his first exhibition at ACA Gallery in 1934. He also exhibited at the Whitney, National Academy, PAFA, Brooklyn Museum, Chicago Art Institute, and others.
This work contains Constructivist elements anticipating the more gestural abstraction of the post-WWII New York Abstract Expressionist School.
