Kevin Robb
Joining Forces - Sweeping elongated forms in sleek stainless steel

2011

About the Item

Elegantly curved geometric shapes appear to dance around a central form in this table-top sculpture by Kevin Robb. The American sculptor is known for his exquisite abstract metal sculptures that play with both negative and positive space. The highly polished stainless steel interacts with the environment and reflects shadow and light. Price in USD. “Looking at a piece of stainless steel my head starts to dance – seeing a shape or design in something as simple as a tree, a cloud passing by, the shadows on a wall, and I am visualizing that next sculpture that must leave my thought processes.” Kevin Robb Studios He is a graduate of the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver, Colorado with major studies in both Sculpture and Graphic Design. In 2004 Robb suffered a massive stroke that left him physically challenged and unable to speak. Without words and with only one usable arm, his team of assistants help bring his artistic vision to life. Robb’s work is held in corporate, private, university, and public collections all over the world.

Geyser - tall, contemporary, abstract, stainless steel, outdoor, sculpture
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Quebec sculptor Bernard Hamel often looks to nature as a source of inspiration for his contemporary sculptures. Geyser emulates the fluid form of a spout of water erupting from the ground and shooting skyward. Forged from fine individual rods of stainless steel, this elegant and dynamic shape suggests turbulent motion. Geysers are a rare natural phenomenon. Hamel prefers to work in a variety of materials including wood and metals, often incorporating the sculpture into a natural environment. “My sculptural approach is essentially based on a direct relationship with the material….The material directs my gestures, determines my choices and the tools allow me, with their singularity, to model these shapes. Memories meet material to transform into a sculptural form with organic lines.” Bernard Hamel Bernard Hamel was born in Quebec and lives and works in St. Roch des Aulnaies. He completed a bachelor’s degree in visual arts at UQAM with a focus on sculpture. To perfect his knowledge of wood he completed a course in cabinetmaking at the Institut québécois d’ébénisterie, in Quebec. In 2005, he took a woodturning course with Jean-François Escoulen and André Martel, two internationally renowned turners. Since 1999, Hamel has taught sculpture at the Maison des Métiers d’Art de Québec. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Quebec and participated in international symposia including the Camille Claudel Sculpture...

Chapel, 1948-2021, Artist's Statement: “I was raised on the Western Slope of Colorado, with almost unfettered access to the American wilderness. I currently reside on a sailboat in Oakland, CA with my studio in nearby San Leandro. I work with permanent materials including bronze, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, glass and stone. It is my contention that a work of art must include a complete environment, not just a single object. In my opinion, it is very difficult to convey meaning with either pure abstraction, or pure representation. Describing an abstract concept with another abstraction does not define the subject. There is nothing in a completely non-objective artwork from the viewers experience upon which to base some meaning. One the other hand, a completely realistic presentation doesn't define an abstraction any better than a dictionary. This is why my sculpture is a blend - the symbolic joining of modern man with primitive experience. They are in-depth studies of the archetypes and symbols used to communicate their relevance to our everyday lives. Mythology, poetry and art are humanity's attempt to describe the mysteries of life which are beyond our ability to consciously comprehend. This is the appeal of the visual arts, poetry, literature and music; they excite an emotional response, or memory that transcends mere words.” - Ron Chapel...
