The polished wood of this hand-carved sculpture by artist Jana Osterman accentuates the sensual quality of this piece. Osterman finds inspiration for her work in shapes and patterns found in nature.
Biomorphic forms are intended to evoke images of living things whether plants or humans. “This series of carved wood pieces was an exploration of textured biomorphic forms, using the wood growth lines as an addition to the rhythmic, shape shifting topography.” Jana Osterman
Born in Slovenia, Jana Osterman moved to Holland where she studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. She continued with printmaking studies in England. For the last 20 years, Osterman has worked as a full-time artist and fabricator in Canada, first in Toronto and now in Prince Edward County, Ontario. Osterman’s artworks, including public commissions, are held in collections in Canada, Slovenia, Germany, England and Dubai.

Jana Osterman
Born in Slovenia, Jana Osterman moved to Holland where she studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. She continued with printmaking studies in England. For the last 20 years, Osterman has worked as a full time artist and fabricator in Canada, first in Toronto and now Prince Edward County, Ontario. Using a variety of materials including cast aluminum, copper and plaster, the artist creates biomorphic themed sculptures. Her work intersects the organic and enigmatic with references to the natural world. Osterman’s artworks, including public commissions, are held in collections in Canada, Slovenia, Germany, England and Dubai.
