Inspired by dance and weightlessness, Granville Beals' industrial metal sculptures are primarily about relationships. His original artworks capture the essence of Abstract Expressionism through poetic gestures while also embracing the sleek aesthetics of Minimalism. Concerned with form and abstraction, he does not merely manipulate metals to defy the expectation of the medium forms but explores the relationship between the human figure and the landscape, color and texture, and most importantly between people at an individual and social level. He established innovative ways to push the boundaries of his technique, creating modern abstract geometric designs inspired by contemporary art and architecture as well as organic forms expressing the unique vision for humanity in a modern world.
This balanced, industrial sculpture measures 56 inches high by 30 inches wide and 11 inches deep. Beals used steel as the medium for this artwork. It is covered in a clear coating, which enhances the textures and colors of the sculpture. The sculpture has a natural patina. It is signed by Beals on the base. This sculpture can be displayed easily on any flat surface, both indoor and outdoor. If outdoors, artwork may further develop its natural patina. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Granville Beals was born and raised in Glens Falls, New York. As a teenager, he moved to New York City where he received a Ford Foundation Scholarship to study and train at New York City Ballet’s School of American Ballet. The choreography of lines and the dynamics of negative space are elements that inform Beals’ work. His sculptures artfully merge polished textures with the transformation of seemingly rigid metals into a state of graceful and captivating fluidity.
Beals is passionate about re-purposing and manipulating materials that might otherwise be destined for the foundry. The unique challenges of these materials spark his creative impulses. “Metal embodies fascinating contradictions. Within its rigid and dense cold mass lives a warmth and a sensuality waiting to be revealed. The coarse, loud and often brutal process of working with metal combined with the fiery violence of the weld induces a state of surprising tranquility. I often sketch out my ideas for new pieces and other times simply wait patiently and listen for the material to give me instructions.”
Beals’ work is held in both private and public collections. His public sculptures can be found in California, New York, and Internationally.

"Quayola employs technology as a lens to explore the tensions and equilibriums between seemingly opposing forces: the real and artificial, figurative and abstract, old and new. Constructing immersive installations, he engages with and re-imagines canonical imagery through contemporary technology. Landscape painting, classical sculpture and iconography are some of the historical aesthetics that serve as a point of departure for Quayola’s hybrid compositions. His varied practice, all deriving from custom computer software, also includes audiovisual performance, immersive video installations, sculpture, and works on paper.
His work has been performed and exhibited in many prestigious institutions worldwide including V&A Museum, London; Park Avenue Armory, New York; National Art Center, Tokyo; UCCA, Beijing; How Art Museum, Shanghai; SeMA, Seoul; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Ars Electronica, Linz; Sonar Festival, Barcelona and Sundance Film Festival.
