About the Item

"Drowned from the Unknown" is an assembled sculpture by Devon Harrison made from sculpted and sand-casted glass. This piece measures 14"h x 19"w x 15"d completely assembled. "Drowned from the unknown is inspired by a darker, unspoken history of America. Many post-slavery Black towns were destroyed by racism - Oscarville, Delta Park, Black Wall Street, and Seneca Village, to name a few. Many lives were lost, homes and knowledge were burned, drowned, or buried. The parks and lakes people visit frequently could be a once thriving town. Using sand casted impressions, the texture invokes a reflection on African American towns that once thrived and were destroyed within days, weeks, and months. Either drowned under bodies of water, destroyed by mobs or turned into parks. I used lapis blue over sandy textured glass to help invoke a buried and waterlogged feel. I'm not one to usually make pieces like this, but as states start trying to muddle America's bloody and dark history towards people of color, it's hard not to want to fight back however you can. These are the imagined lost remnants of the past." -Devon Harrison Color outside of the glass, ideas outside of the box. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Devon Harrison is an artist that works with literal and strange art. In his youth, cartoons, video games and movies were a few of his favorite inspirations that helped mold his reactive art style and mind. Graduating from Delaware College of Art and Design, as well as University of the Arts with a BFA in Animation; Devon also found and minored in Glass. Realizing both mediums were similar, he hopes to incorporate more glass animations in his line of work. As a Black artist, Devon already has a social stigma in society. He hopes to help his community find their voices through crafts and avoid being shoved into "checkbox" careers. But, he's not alone. His chonky cat, Mittmitts, is here to help too.

"Petroleum Bubble Sunsets" Custom ALIFE sneakers, Abstract dimensional paint
By PJ Linden
Located in Philadelphia, PA
This piece titled "Petroleum Bubble Sunsets (pair)" is an original artwork by PJ Linden and is made from dimensional paint on ALIFE Leather Suede Sneakers. This piece measures 6.5"h x 8.5'w 11"d each shoe. Linden uniquely refines the use of non-traditional mediums, such as the kitschy, dimensional fabric paint, oft-referred to as puff paint, seeking to transfigure the biological into the supernatural, as filtered through the prism of a consumerist culture predicated upon the synthetic and the mass-produced. Born 1985 Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. PJ Linden is a New York City and Pennsylvania-based fine artist known for her abstract, three-dimensional work. She paints with machine-like precision, creating microscopic patterns on found objects, fashion, and technology. Linden got her start working with Patricia Field, creating custom, one-of-a-kind art and fashion under the name Wonderpuss Octopus. At Field's iconic, namesake boutique, Linden's work caught the eye of celebrity clients including Beyonce, Willow Smith, Kelly Osborne, and Solange Knowles...
