David Chamberlain
Rhapsody Ed. 1/15 - smooth, polished, abstract, bronze and mahogany sculpture

1982

About the Item

This contemporary bronze sculpture inspired by music is shaped like a heart and was made by David Chamberlain. The lyrical lush lines of this heart-shaped bronze sculpture were created by the American artist David Chamberlain. Rhapsody can be found in the permanent collections of several notable American Art Museums. Sculpted from one continuous piece, the highly patinated finish features flecks of turquoise in a dark bronze. Mounted on a wooden base, the sculpture is designed to rotate so that every turn reveals another character. Chamberlain’s sculptural work is inspired by his love of music as an expressive art form. Each piece is named after a musical term. Rhapsody is a flowing one-movement work distinguished by its free-form style. Edition one of fifteen. “I’d like to think my work is timeless—not relying on fitting into a certain genre.” David Chamberlain David Allen Chamberlain was born in Canton, Ohio in 1949. He attended Princeton University in 1971 where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Architecture. In 1977 he acquired a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Pennsylvania. That was followed by a graduate certificate from the Teaching Studio Art Institute of Colorado College and finally a master’s in landscape architecture from the University of Colorado. Over several decades, he has created more than 2000 pieces of artwork in various mediums which appear in both private collections and in art institutions, museums, and colleges around the world. This sculpture can be upscaled for the outdoors. Available on a commission basis in various sizes and in a variety of materials including bronze and steel. By David Chamberlain
Located in Bloomfield, ON
This modern indoor sculpture by David Chamberlain was inspired by music and is made out of mahogany wood. The graceful curves of this contemporary solid mahogany sculpture by David Chamberlain appear in one illuminating perspective to emulate the image of a heart. Hand carved from one piece of this rare wood; the abstract form’s surface is such that the insides become the outsides creating a continuous, enigmatic, integrated form. The naturally rich grain is highly finished with a soft lustre that accentuates the form. Chamberlain’s sculptures...
