STANDING NUDE an original hand drawn lithograph by Raphael Soyer, the renowned Russian-born American realist painter, draftsman, and printmaker. Printed on archival Arches paper 100% acid free paper. Standing Nude is a sensitive, realist portrait drawing of a young woman standing modestly posed; she has a pale peach colored flesh tone and auburn brown hair tied up in a bun.

Soyer is best known for picturing poverty stricken victims of the Great Depression in New York City, also for creating images of everyday urban life and of the nude female body.

About the artist -
RAPHAEL SOYER, painter, lithographer, and teacher, was born on December 15, 1899, in Borisoglebsk, Tombov, Russia. The Soyer family moved to New York 1912, settling in the Bronx. Raphael's twin brother, Moses, and their brother, Isaac, were also artists. His formal studies were at Cooper Union, the National Academy of Design, and the Art Students League. Raphael's first solo exhibition was in 1929.
He was a member of the National Academy of Design, American Academy of Arts and Letters, American Society of Painters, Sculptors and Gravers, Artists Congress, and the National Institute of Arts and Letters. Soyer taught at the Art Students League in New York. Working in oil painting or lithography printmaking, he was an American Scene artist who championed realism and his work portrays the daily life of New Yorkers.
Soyer's works are in the collections of the Phillips Collection, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Metropolitan Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the New York Public Library, the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard, the Asheville Art Museum, the Princeton University Art Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Raphael Soyer died in New York on November 4, 1987.

Raphael Soyer
Raphael Soyer, a Russian-born artist, was best known for his compassionate, naturalistic depictions of urban subjects. His sensitive, penetrating portrayals include a broad range of city dwellers, dancers, shoppers, office workers and fellow artists. Historically, Soyer is associated with the social realist artists of the 1930s, whose art championed the cause of social justice. Soyer was referred to as an American scene painter. He is identified as a Social Realist because of his interest in men and women viewed in contemporary settings which included the streets, subways, salons and artists' studios of New York City. He also wrote several books on his life and art. His brothers Moses and Issac were also notable artists.
