Veduta del Ponte Lugano su l'Anione is a superb black and white etching on laid paper realized by Giovan Battista Piranesi. From the series "Views of Rome".
Signed on plate on lower right margin "Piranesi F."
Original title is etched on the lower right margin: "Veduta del Ponte Lugano su l'Anione nella via Tiburtina risarcito ne' tempi bassi A Sepolcro della famiglia Plauzia" (The Ponte Lucano, with the Tomb of the Plautii)
According to Hind, this is the plate number 68 and this is the first state on IV. Address and price on the lower left margin "Si vende presso l'Autore a paoli due e mezzo".
This beautiful view with a cinematographic cut shot is amazing for the intensity of the blacks and the sharpness of the line. In excellent conditions, except for some light foxing on the margins.

Giovanni Battista Piranesi
Piranesi was born in Venice in 1720 and died in Rome in 1778. He was the son of a stone mason and was trained as an architect. After a slow start he eventually achieved great success as an architect, archaeologist, artist, designer, collector, and antiquities dealer. His mission was to glorify the architecture of ancient Rome through his engravings and etchings. His highly dramatized prints often depict imaginary interiors and frequently include figures in mysterious activities, who are dwarfed by the magnitude of their monumental surroundings. Piranesi's style greatly influenced the neoclassical art movement of the late 18th century. His dramatic scenes inspired generations of set designers, as well as artists, architects and writers. His prints have continued to increase in value to institutions and collectors.

Kent Hagerman, (US Air Force Fairchild C-119, the 'Flying Boxcar')
By Kent Hagerman
Located in New York, NY
While this is probably a military airport, Kent Hagerman still shows it at its futuristic best. Hagerman was an amazing draftsman who managed to get fantastic detail into his work.
This is really a portrait of a plane -- the Fairchild C-119. The words 'United States Air Force' on the side of the plane date it to 1947 or later, after the Air Force split from the Army. The design featured the 'twin boom' clearly showing in this etching. Thanks to this feature it was called the Flying Boxcar. About 1100 were built and used until 1955. It was also used by the Chinese Air...
