About the Item

Rue des Marmousets is a black and White etching realized by Jules Herau in the Late 19th Century. Titled in the lower. Image Size: 20x26. Very good impression. Realized by Cadart for the "Société des Aquafortistes. Born on the initiative of the publisher Alfred Cadart, the Société des Aquafortistes had the aim of reviving etching which had slowly been replaced by the cheaper lithography. Among the first participants in the association were the Barbizon painters who helped raise the medium to new heights, but over 100 leading French artists contributed to the creation of the 300 engravings. With the publication of the last volume in 1867 the society, given the high costs and modest commercial success, was dissolved but new experiments were soon born: Félicien Rops, former member, founded the Société Internationale des Aquafortistes in Brussels in December 1869 , while in London The Portfolio and the Society of Painter-Etchers were born respectively in 1870 and 1880. In Paris, in 1873, the magazine Paris à l'eau-forte was founded.

Winslow Homer created this etching entitled “MENDING THE TEARS” in 1888. This is a lifetime impression signed by Homer and printed by the famous New York etcher George W. H. Ritchie. This artwork titled "Arch Beach, California" c.1910 is an original etching on Wove paper by American artist Harley DeWitt Nichols, 1859-1939. It is hand signed and titled in pencil by the artist. The plate mark (image) size is 6.5 x 9.5 inches, framed size is 13 x 17 inches. it is custom framed in a wooden silver frame, with off white matting. It is in excellent condition, especially considering the age. About the artist: Born in the small rural Wisconsin town of Barton, Harley lived a peripatetic life. As a young child, he accompanied his family to Lincoln, Nebraska where he found great excitement in the roaming herds of buffalo and Native Americans. It was in these years that a talent for drawing was discovered. In 1870, after several years of hardship, his father moved the family back to Wisconsin. At the age of 11 he became a water boy...
