Dwight Baird 'Old Glory Gone' 2023- Acrylic- Signed

2023

About the Item

Havana, Cuba - Revolutions happen for a reason. No one wakes up one morning and saying, “I’m going to start a revolution today”, without thinking about it a little first. The Cuban revolution, which started in the late 1950’s and triumphed at the end of 1969 is the stuff of legends. The country was in dire need of change and change came. But ten years later, all the promises that were made, free elections, freedom of the press, a better life, all had fallen by the wayside. Once again, the revolution simply replaced what they had fought so hard to overthrow. Since then it has only gotten worse – all glory that came from the victory is long forgotten, long gone. All that is left is hunger, disappointment and repression.
