This is an unique one-off Artist Proof, in a rare Extra-Large square format.
A special Proof that only 3 have been made with hand gilded Gold Leaf.
The outstanding hand-painted quality and stunning visual presence with expressive colours promising to bring impact to your space.
The Proof is partly hand-painted and hand-gilded with gold leaf by artist herself, signed at the front and at the back label too.
This classic quality Proof is an alternative to the original is collectable in an very desirable price. It's a part of the series for a special Proof Project published coinciding with Shizico's exhibition- Nostalgia, London, UK 2024.
About the painting:
Constant Gardener- A self portrait is inspired by Japanese woodblock Print and the a nod to calligraphy tradition.
Colours are the emotional device for Shizico in making these paintings, rather than landscape's real-life hues. The series is a part of "Sunlit Series" where Shizico develop her visual language, with and around the colour of yellow: it's an exploration of the healing power of yellow. In this painting, she painted the light in its shadowy forms, the painting documents the shadows casted throughout the day in her garden painted plein air; seeing her own shadows in between the dahlias field under the Indian summer's burning sunlight.
She incorporated gilding techniques with gold leaves to push “yellow” further, resulting in a visual language reminiscent of wood block prints. In this series, Shizico restricts the colour palette, combines monochromatic tones, showcasing the interplay of yellow against various layers of mono colour palette.

Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.

Shizico Yi's work aims to explore artistic obsession through repetitive documentation of the domestic and the everyday.
