This abstract landscape limited edition print by Elwood Howell features a warm, yellow and orange-hued landscape with a high horizon line and warm undertones. What appears to be a small white picket fence shape is visible along the horizon line.
An edition of 100, the limited edition giclee it is printed on canvas, and framed in a warm silver floater frame ready to hang. The artist provides permission to Sorelle Gallery to create this Limited Edition print, which is printed with pigment ink on a Premium Fine Art Matte Canvas and designed to meet museum longevity requirements and ensure consistency. The artist's signature and edition number is digitally added to the giclee print when prior to shipping. The print is delivered with a Certificate of Authenticity containing all information and retail price.

Of his artwork, Elwood Howell says, "The greater body of my work is primary landscapes and seascapes of an imaginary nature created in the studio. Most works have a generally high horizon as a focal point to lure ones eye into the simple composition. The large area below the horizon down to the base of the canvas gives the viewer's eye freedom to roam the surface. This space gives the painting life much as soil nourishes the very roots of a tree. The imagery at the horizon gives a focal point and the expanse above serves as atmosphere to set the mood. This has been a format I have used for over forty years and it still intrigues me..."

Elwood Howell
Elwood Howell is a celebrated painter of abstract landscapes. Born in 1933, in Perkin, Illinois, Howell studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and the University of Illinois. For more than 50 years, he has been having a conversation with paint.
Howell elaborates, "When approaching my work, only a vague idea is in mind of what is to take place on the canvas or paper.” With this openness to explore the possibilities without agenda, Howell creates thought-provoking, dream-like landscapes and seascapes that transport the viewer to familiar yet otherworldly places. He composes these scenes almost exclusively from imagined visions in the studio, using acrylic, oil and watercolor on canvas, linen, paper and wood. Still, he must draw some inspiration from the scenery of East Hampton, New York, where he has lived and worked since 1974.
Through most of his oeuvre, Howel has utilized a high horizon line, a format he adopted 40 years ago and is still fascinated by today. The higher focal point forms a large foreground that the viewer can contemplate, explore and move about freely as if they were experiencing the expanse physically. In the space above the horizon line, an atmosphere is created that gives the impression that there is more to see, just out of view.
Howell’s work is in the collections of the Illinois State Museum, Emanuel De Margerie (former director of the Louvre), Citibank New York, Reader’s Digest New York, 7Up and AT&T. Some of his many honors include the Merit and Purchase Award, Springfield Old Capitol Art Exhibit in 1971, the Award of Excellence from Heckscher Museum in 1975 and an honorable mention from Guild Hall in 2003.

Part of the Southern Seas Series, this image is a manipulation of my own original photograph. Harnessing the graphic power of colors, it explores not only what is seen, but what could be. Hardedge lines distill the composition into colorful stripes reminiscent of op-art paintings. Each image is a slightly different meditation on color. As part of my broader body of work, this series invites us as humans to evolve to higher states of being through visual meditation on color. This work, and this series, uses photography to study color, the camera to deconstruct the world and color to create visual meditations.
