Grenade With Flowers

2017

About the Item

"Grenade With Flowers" is a relief print with piercing printed in black ink on handmade Korean paper. This unique paper has natural fiber inclusions which were placed into the pulp during the forming of the sheet. They provide a strong horizontality that compliment the graphic, monumental image. Lieberman often reinterprets her sculptural ideas in the print medium, and the inspiration for the image is a highly polished black marble sculpture from her "Unidentified Dangerous Beautiful Objects" series.

A very rare Artists Proof, aside from the regular edition of 150. "Vertical Lines Not Touching (Black)" was created for the legendary portfolio "CONSPIRACY: the Artist as Witness", to raise money for the legal defense of the Chicago 8 - a group of anti-Vietnam War activists indicted by President Nixon's Attorney General John Mitchell for conspiring to riot during the 1968 Democratic National Convention.
