Terry O'Neill - Brigitte Bardot Cigar, Photography 1971, Printed After
By Terry O'Neill
Located in Greenwich, CT
Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot is one of the most iconic French actresses and models in the world. She is one of the best known sex symbols of the 1950s and 1960s and was widely referred to by her initials, B.B. With her heavy fringe, kohl-lined eyes, pouty lips and seductive curves, Brigitte Bardot captured the sixties bombshell zeitgeist. Like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, her image not only portrayed an era but an ideal that has remained indelibly imprinted in popular culture. This photo of French actress Brigitte Bardot in Spain, 1971 was taken on the set of 'Les Petroleuses' a.k.a. 'The Legend of Frenchie King', a western comedy film directed by Christian-Jaque. While on the set of ‘The Legend of Frenchie King’, Terry O’Neill was doing a three part series on Brigitte Bardot. This was the last frame Terry had left to use on set. The Bardot cigar shot is considered to be one of his most iconic photographs and is part of the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London. “I noticed that when the wind gusted there was the potential for a great picture. When the time came, I only had one frame left – one shot at it. But suddenly the wind swept her hair across her face, and it was a knock-out.” -Terry O’Neill All Fine Art...
