About the Item

Baretta 9mm Digital C-Print / Archival Pigment Print Available sizes: 36 x 72 in - Edition of 20 48 x 96 in - Edition of 10 In Point Blank, Lusztyk’s magnification of handguns at once anthropomorphizes and abstracts its subject to create demystified portraits of an infamous machine. High-resolution images are made up of many separate shots, stitched together in post-production to maximize detail at such a large scale. Presented with the “impossible perspective” of looking down a gun’s barrel—however unnerving—viewers are also offered a rare opportunity to study the imperfections of a cultural object both fetishized and feared. These flawed, monolithic studies of Point Blank are born of curiosity rather than a desire to glorify danger, while supporting the many possible and conflicting readings the subject elicits. Indeed, the series recalls the dramatic firearm character studies Robert Longo’s Body Hammers (1993), but also the industrial typology of Bernd and HIlla Becher’s 1970s architectural grid series. What each project shares in is the power for the photographic medium to lend new aesthetic potential to its subjects—the recognition of the degree to which scale, detail, and context precariously mark the borders between meanings. Point Blank has been exhibited in Canada, US, UK, Switzerland, and France. Work from the series was featured in Bruce MacDonald’s 2013 film The Husband and the Netflix series Hemlock Grove. Work from the series has been published in publications including Wired, The Atlantic, Daily Mail, Le Monde, and Esquire. New York City, Cloud, Contemporary Color Fine Art Photography
By Roberta Fineberg
Located in New york, NY
For the pastel blue and white photograph “Cloud” the artist Roberta Fineberg’s attention and equilibrium remained anchored on an anthropomorphic cloud during an unusual springtime (2020) in New York. With the soul of the City laid bare, birds sang louder than usual outside city dwellers’ windows. Sunlight illuminated the empty streets, formerly bustling. Nature reigned. A contemporary color photograph, Cloud, 2020 by Roberta Fineberg is 16" x 20" (sheet size) an archival pigment print on baryta paper in an edition of 5. Photograph is signed by the artist. Provenance: RF Studio *** Artist Bio: As a visual artist, Roberta Fineberg (RF) focuses on the themes of serendipity, inventiveness, and the development of ideas for her photography, video, installations, works on paper, and painting. Drawn to experimentation, she explores diverse mediums and concepts such as the ephemeral (Butterfly Series), stolen moments (documentary photography), play, timelessness, the enduring, and the significance of matter. RF, living in New York City, began her career as an editorial photographer while studying in Paris. In France she contributed both photography and writing to publications, landing a column (photos and text) with The Saturday Review while exhibiting photographs in public spaces. Roberta Fineberg’s freelance photography appeared in Le Monde, Jeune Afrique, Paris Match, L’Officiel Femme, Ms, Weltwoche, Vanguardia, among others with images licensed through stock agencies. Photographs were selected for cover art at W.W. Norton, St. Martin’s Press, Harcourt, Bookspan, Simon & Schuster, etc. Print Regional Design Annual New York (2003) awarded her for book jacket photography for If Wishes Were Horses. In 1997 Macmillan published City Riders: A Story of Riding and Friendship her first book of black-and-white photographs and a story about three teenage girls in the 1990s who rode horses at the now-defunct Claremont Riding Academy and oldest stable in New York City. In 2023, RF created an interactive installation, works on paper on the female body, in a public space. In July 2022, Fineberg’s Double Helix was included in a Sotheby’s auction in New York City and exhibited in the preview show Contemporary Discoveries. Selected exhibitions include Time Gallery New York (2022), Phyllis Harriman Gallery New York studio shows (2020, 2022), CADAF online art...
